RWE Peartree Solar Development
This is a page for the large scale solar development in our areas.
Updates will be tagged at the end of the page as we receive information.
Please scroll to the end , each update will include a date stamp.
Some background in the meantime :
The proposal is a large scale 2,000 acre site, covering some 11 miles reaching out to Tickton, and down to Wawne, as well as large developments adjacent to Long Riston and Arnold.
It will see the installation of hundreds of thousands of ~3 metre solar panels , and several large substations and large scale battery storage (BESS) modules, in our immediate area, as well as fencing and all other ancillary infrastructure to support the development.
This project due to its size will be decided at a national level, it will take several years of development and is planned to run for 40 years.
There is very little of this size within the UK operational
See : https://www.solarpowerportal.co.uk/the_top_10_biggest_solar_farms_in_the_uk/
Now is the time for residents to shape the development
In the meantime please see this resource from the developers

We will update shortly with further information
30/05/2024 - Sub Station 2
A planned sub station is in the area opposite Arnold and the Bay Horse Public House , set back to the East (see images)
The dimensions of the sub station (2) are thought to be
110m (330ft) x 60m (197ft)
Highest point (communications tower) 14m (46ft)
External equipment height 8m (26ft) , typical house height in the UK to the roof line is ~8m (26ft)
Fencing height 4m (13ft)
The site of Ace Glades cars is smaller than the footprint of the proposed sub station, see the images
Environmental conditions can impact the noise and vibration of sub stations, so humidity and heat are examples.

04/06/2024 - Long Riston Solar Panel Location
The proposed location of the solar panels in the village of Long Riston can be seen here
Here you can see how it runs to down the back of Catwick Lane, towards St. Margarets church, some of the plans lack identifiable locations, the above link, I have drawn a route in red to highlight it.
06/06/2024 - RWE Presentation
Last night Mike Greslow of RWE presented a very short overview at the Long Riston Parish Council meeting, questions were limited and restricted due to time pressures of the impending parish council meeting.
Some key takeaway points
- Nothing exists in the ground of this size to view (plans for a couple more are still plans)
- The nearest RWE installation is in the Midlands at around 50mw
- RWE are to present a open forum for Q&A in our village hall in Long Riston on the 17th June 2024, starting at 5pm
